‘You can´t stop Karma’
– a delightful feelgood novel
with a touch of karma –
There’s no dodging fate…
Part 1 of the ‘Karma’ Series
“You can’t stop karma,” his mother always said. And she was right.
First Sergeant Andrew carries a heavy guilt from a fatal mistake and the cover-up that followed. When his attempt to desert the army also fails and journalist Lindsay is hot on his heels, he finally gets one chance to be honest… and make peace with himself.
His buddy Ben is enjoying his new freedom back in New Orleans, while trying to fix his own bad karma. He helps his niece Chloe through a nerve-wracking music audition, then rushes to Paris to reconnect with an old flame trapped under a narcissist’s thumb.
Meanwhile, André loses two fingers in an industrial accident, his job, and spirals into a drinking problem that costs him his family. Determined to make amends, he will do anything to win back his wife Monique.
Grandma Nina throws grand parties in her mansion, where Chloe’s mother Christine unexpectedly bumps into a love from twenty-seven years ago, turning her world upside down.
And ‘the girls’ are hard at work in Nina’s garage on their Mardi Gras float, Hurricane Gaytrina. Between glue, glitter, and friendship, hope for victory grows.
During the exuberant parade, Andrew’s long-hidden secret finally comes out for all to see!
You can’t stop karma—not even with a little glitter.

Fran Genis takes us on a journey full of guilt, redemption and unexpected twists in her first volume of the Karma Series. The story of soldier Andrew, haunted by a past that won’t let him go, grabs you by the throat. The theme of karma, woven throughout the book, gives the reader food for thought about the consequences of our choices.
The author manages to interweave the different storylines of Andrew, the persistent journalist Lindsay and Andrew’s mate Ben in a smooth manner. This keeps the story exciting and keeps the reader enthralled until the last page. The setting of New Orleans, with its lively atmosphere and annual Mardi Gras festival, provides a colourful backdrop for the unfolding of the plot.
The characters are complex. Andrew is a man scarred by his past, while Lindsay is a strong and independent woman who puts truth above all else. Ben, with his own share of karma, provides a lighthearted counterpoint to the more serious storylines.
The ending is both touching and satisfying.
‘You can’t stop Karma’ is a story that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. Genis manages to touch the reader with her descriptions of guilt, loss and the power of friendship.

I really enjoyed reading this book, I finished it in two afternoons. The writing style is very nice and the tension builds up well. You read the story from the perspective of different characters, this is very well done, so you can empathise with everyone. The different storylines eventually coming together is also very well done. I am very curious about the sequel!
Highly recommended reading!

It is a thin book. It reads very smoothly. I did have to get used to the fact that it was written from different perspectives, but once further into the storyline, it read smoothly and the ending is also a very nice and unexpected find! Highly recommended!

‘Instant Karma’
– a delightful feelgood novel
with a touch of karma –
There’s no dodging fate…
Part 2 of the ‘Karma’ Series
Five years later, Ben and Sophie’s life is turned upside down: their little daughter Lily is kidnapped the day before her fifth birthday! Panic ensues.
Luckily, a rather improbable team comes to the rescue: the principled police officer Mulroon, the persistent journalist Lindsay, a gothic hacker named ISIS, the mysterious Mr. J, singing teacher Tamika, and a brave streetkid with more guts than sense. But is it enough to save Lily?
While everyone is holding their breath, Ben’s cousin Chloe has entirely different worries. Her manager Peter wants to force her into an image that doesn’t fit her band Liquid Blue at all. With the help of stylist Jacintha, she tries to break free, unintentionally causing Jacintha to lose her job. Oops.
Chloe’s stepbrother Billy is a man with a plan. He dreams of studying Space Architecture, but his bank account has other ideas. So he signs up for the TV show Weekend Millionaires and plays the game in his own, uniquely introvert way.
And then there’s Marcy, Chloe’s overworked mother-in-law, who, after accidentally eating a cupcake (long story), undergoes a surprising transformation, much to the astonishment of everyone, including herself.
Instant Karma—because even cupcakes have consequences.

There’s no dodging fate…
Part 3 of the ‘Karma’ Series
Two years later, Ben works as a counselor at the small-scale children’s home Children First, run by former journalist Lindsay. When the prickly but lonely hacker Isis shows up with troubling news, Lindsay offers her a job. Together with police officer Mulroon, they do everything they can to protect the children from Gatelsey, a convicted pedophile and trafficker who has somehow escaped his sentence. In the process, Isis is forced to come to terms with a deeply painful family secret.
Ben’s cousin Chloe is trying to break through with her band Liquid Blue, but after mismanagement by their manager and a #MeToo incident, they are dropped by their record label. In their desperation, Chloe’s boyfriend Josh hatches an unusual plan, which ends in a surprising proposal.
Stylist Jacintha attempts to revive her career, but finds herself accidentally caught up in a series of dangerous situations, even witnessing a murder! Will she be able to overcome her pride?
Ben’s wife Sophie, an orphan, discovers through a French TV show that she actually has family; a revelation that changes everything. And Cheryl must find herself again when a sinister prophecy and the loss of a close friend turn her world upside down.

What a rollercoaster of a book this third volume! I was on the edge of my seat. This trilogy is so well put together and the stories flow together smoothly in each part. A lot of depth is given to the characters and they keep coming back very nicely. And the writing style is just WOW, so great!
But does everyone make it through, or are some characters punished severely by karma?
All in all, I would say: read this ‘Karma’ Series, it is well worth it!
